Driver Conduct

Many trucking cases begin with the decisions made behind the wheel.

A trucking expert may evaluate following distance, lane changes, merging, speed selection, turning, backing, mirror use, hazard perception, and the driver's response to surrounding traffic.

Commercial vehicles require different operating judgment from passenger cars because of their size, stopping distance, blind areas, and maneuverability.

The expert should evaluate the driver's conduct in the context of commercial vehicle operation rather than simply apply ordinary passenger-car expectations to a tractor-trailer.

The expert may compare ELD records with GPS data, dispatch information, bills of lading, fuel transactions, and other records to test whether the log accurately reflects the trip.

Not every discrepancy is evidence of intentional falsification. The significance depends on what the data actually shows.

Driver Qualification

Trucking cases sometimes shift from the collision itself to whether the carrier should have allowed the driver to operate a commercial vehicle.
